J.C. Nigh was born in Fairfield County, Ohio to Adam
O. & Martha Jane (Cook) Nigh. Just a month before his
twenty-first birthday he married Married “Martha Ann
(Williams) Nigh" (b.8/20/1841 in Grundy Co., MO;
d.9/29/1931) in April 1858 in Missouri. J.C. & Martha
would go on to have seven children, the first three
(John Elles, Mary Jane, Sarah Katherine) being born in
Mercer Co., MO and the remaining four (Thomas O.,
Rachel Melinda, Kate & Charles Henry) being born in
Alvord (Wise County), Texas where the family had
moved to in 1875. Sometime not long before
Oklahoma statehood (1907), the Nigh family moved to
Stephens Co., Oklahoma where J.C. & Martha lived the
remainder of their days.

There is no indication of military service inscribed on
J.C.'s headstone.

Blog on break

I plan to resume posting on this blog in the month
of February. Starting then, posts will be on something
more like a once-a-month schedule rather than on
a once-a-week basis as has been the case in the past.
